{TB EXCLUSIVE} TOM HIDDLESTON GOES GREEK FOR DISNEY’S “KYRIAKIDES” SPORTS DRAMA

Recent reports indicate that will star in the sports drama , which follows the true story of the Greek marathoner Stelios Kyriakides and his survival through the Nazi occupation of Athens. is teaming up with Mayhem and 1821 to produce the film, and scribe Bill Wheeler is working on the current version of the script.

The story follows the famous marathoner who not only survived the Nazi occupation, but went on to win the Boston Marathon to raise money for Greece’s relief. It does not appear to chronicle his entire life, and I think that’s a wise choice by filmmakers, as sprawling biopics are often watered down and unfocused. Think of good ones like “Capote,” or “The Queen,” that focus on specific instances in a person’s life that help define them.

Hiddleston is on fire right now, with the successful “Thor” and “Avengers” franchises providing consistent Blockbuster movies for him to star in. What’s great is his acting versatility and avid love of theater, leading him to win the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Newcomer back in 2008, and a slew of other nominations for his film work.  He currently has 5 films in development, including “Crimson Peak,” “Two Minutes to Midnight,” and “High Rise,” and can be seen in the recent “Muppets Most Wanted,” and “Only Lovers Left Alive.”

, , , and are producing, along with executive producing for Mayhem and overseeing for . No word yet on when production will start, but producers are actively meeting with directors to helm the project.

Stay glued to the Tracking Board for more updates on the project, as Hiddleston is sure to draw attention to this already inspiring film!
